Our beautiful oak trees that provide the green canopy that we all love also provides the annual chorus of groans when they opt to replace their old leaves with new ones.
Don’t we all love the opportunity for a little needed exercise to be constantly removing them from our section of the street? It seems that as soon as we are done, we need to start again…
The CDD seems to have been considering a solution for a long time. Since April 2025, meeting agendas have contained: “OM to obtain proposal for purchase of leaf pick up vehicle and proposal for vendor for leaf pick up”.
A year later – in March 2026 – under a heading “Consideration of VerdeGo Leaf Clean Up Proposals” the CDD Board “took no action on the proposals at this time”.
There was no explanation for it’s decisiom.
The agenda referred to Exhibit 15 as Verdego’s proposal but this does not appear in the agenda.
The topic thereafter disappeared from the agenda.
I have been told that Verdego proposed charging almost $20,000 to do a one-time clean up. If this is accurate, it is hardly surprising that no action was taken on the proposal.
Was that the end of it?
Did the CDD look at purchasing a machine?
Di it seeking more reasonable proposals?
80 years ago, I grew up in an urban slum with no electricity and a toilet at the end of the yard and a once-weekly bath in a metal tub that hung on an outside wall while buckets of water were heated on an open coal fire. I was third in the water…
In the midst of this area of urban decay and crushing poverty, the street outside was immaculate!
It was swept and vacuumed by a city-owned-and-operated mechanical machine once a week! Areas that were difficult to reach with the large machine were swept by a man with a brush and cart.
80 years later, I live in an upscale development and pay $3,000 a year on top of city and county property taxes to be provided with upscale amenities.
And I have to sweep my own street..?
Would someone like to explain this anachronism???
